Why does reproducibility matter?

Models may change. The evidentiary path must not.

Evidence should survive the moment

An institutional statement may be reviewed long after it was first produced. Its basis therefore cannot depend only on the judgement, interface or model that happened to be present at the time.

Reproducibility means the evidentiary path can be examined again under the same defined conditions.

A condition for meaningful challenge

If a result cannot be reproduced or its basis revisited, criticism becomes a dispute about trust. Reproducibility gives review a common object.
